Top of The World
“How much money did we make today?”
“One Trillion dollars, sir”
“That’s it? Well, not bad, the world is a in a depression. How are the rockets coming? Those astroids won’t mine themselves”
“On schedule, sir”
“Fantastic”
Charlie Chambers looked out his massive windows from the top of his mega sky scraper over the rest of the world. His suit, handcrafted and stiched by the finest tailors on the earth with the most expensive materials. Rare metals were bent into the buttons and cuff links while the tie was a simple veridian black. He had rose the top of the world through military, pharmaceuticals and energy. Buying companies, destroying others. Stealing ideas, burrowing others. Now among the super elite, he was the elitest. The man that knew what humanity needed. The man with power to buy, make, create, destroy anything in the world. And finally at last he was about to put his rival out of business and wreck the man that had tried to come from nowhere to rip apart his empire. Lucus Tirel.
Charlie had never heard of or seen this man before. Then two years ago he comes out of nowhere with money, power, influence. Every venture that Charlie went after, Lucs was right on his heels. It got so bad that Charlie had resort to some black market methods. Which some how always failed. He looked for anything about Lucus, but it seemed that the only when Lucus made a move did his resources pop up. But at last. Lucas had agreed to sell the last of his business in space mining to him. Now there would be no one to stop him.
“Sir, Lucus is here”
“Send him in” Charlie smiled sitting at his massive ebony table.
Lucus entered wearing a victorian style of coat. To Charlies annoyance looked calm and peaceful, like he always did. He sat slowly and cross his legs and rested his cheek on his right hand.
“Charlie, pleasure to see you once again” Lucus said giving a slight smile.
“Oh, the pleasure is all mine.” Charlie pulled out the contract “This won’t take long, just sign these papers and our lawyers will do the rest.” He put forth the pen.
Lucus looked at the paper and then back at Charlie “I’m not selling you my company”
A big grin spread across Charlies face “Of course you are, what else can you do? I beat you at your own game, at every turn, what moves do you have left?” When Lucus made no move Charlie slammed his fists into the table “Sign the damn papers. You are wasting my time”
“Why should I?”
“Why should you?” Charlie balked “Sir, you are nothing, you came from nothing and will become nothing. Your legacy, your plans what ever they might of been, are over. I have a vision for this world. I have gathered it all and now stand ready. Every opponent that has come, I have crushed. Everyone that doubted, has been silenced. All those that disagree, now agree. Your puppets and my hands pull your strings” Charlie caught his breath and threw the pen at Lucus “Now sign”
Lucus picked up the pen and examined it. “Nice pen” Then with the pointed end he slammed it into his neck and dragged it across. Blood poured out onto the table and contract. Choking could be heard coming from Lucus as he sat in convulsions. Charlie stood up trying to avoid the blood.
“James” he yelled “James, security, anyone, get in here”
“They won’t come” a voice came from the slashed throat of Lucus.
Charlie watched wide eyed as Lucus stood up from the chair, pulled a handkerchief from his breast pocket and wiped his neck.
“See Charlie, I have made some stops in recent years. Leaders all over the world. Company presidents all over the world. I told them of you, I told them to fight you, I funded they downfall.” his neck was fully healed and he approached Charlie “Humans, man, women. For what ever reason you justy think you got the stuff. You think that your on top, controlling destiny. With more money, you become something beyond human. Beyond mortal. But, you don’t”
“What the fuck are you” Charlie bolted for the corner of his office. He pulled out a rifle and loaded it.
“Shoot me Charlie” Lucus droned and Charlie shot him. “Doesn’t look like it did much” Lucus pushed off the bullets from his vest. “Now like all the rest, we have come to the point. You either follow my orders, what I need you to do. Or I simply, how do you say it? Kill you. Like your assassins tried to do to me last year.”
“How much money do you want?”
“All of it”
“Companies?”
“Charlie, it’s all mine either way. Flesh and blood my friend” he pulled out the pen and handed it to Charlie. Charlie took the pen and slouched to his desk. He looked up from the blood stained contract at Lucus. His suit riddled with blood and bullet holes. “100 years per offspring, a tiny rock among an infinite universe. Don’t think owning this world is anything, please , so shameful”
Charlie singed the last of the documents and push it forward “What’s next” he croaked.
“Business as usual Charlie, go get cleaned up, put that smile on your face and run this company in my stead, I’ll clear the way” he took the contact in his hands “But, remember Charlie, your only human”
